Supporting energy generated from renewable resources is important to AEP Energy and we make it easy for businesses to embrace green energy. As an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional electricity plans, your business can choose a plan that matches a percentage of your electricity usage with national Green-e® Energy certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
Here are a few reasons to consider renewable energy for your business:
You’ll get peace of mind knowing that you’ve made a sound choice that supports renewable energy resources as well as lessening your business’ impact to the environment for the many generations to come.

Renewable energy comes from natural sources that are constantly and sustainably replenished such as wind, solar or hydro. Renewable energy resources are 100% pollution-free and have lower greenhouse gas emissions than traditional energy resources.
The sun, wind, water or heat from the earth are sustainable natural energy sources, essentially providing unlimited energy and numerous environmental, health, and economic benefits. When you go green, you’ll get peace of mind knowing that your business has made a sound choice that supports renewable energy resources as well as helping to preserve and protect the environment for future generations.
A REC is the environmental attribute associated with the generation of one megawatt hour of renewable energy. Each REC embodies different characteristics that vary depending on the generation facility. Buying RECs helps build a market for renewable electricity. It also has other environmental benefits such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A REC represents the environmental benefits of one megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable energy that can be paired with electricity. For more information, see the information below.
Your purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) supports renewable electricity production in the region of generation. For every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent amount of RECs is produced, and by purchasing and pairing RECs with your electricity service you are using and receiving the benefits of that renewable electricity. You will continue to receive a separate electricity bill from your utility for electricity service [if applicable]. Your REC purchase also helps build a market for renewable electricity. Increased demand for and generation of renewable electricity helps reduce conventional electricity generation in the region where the renewable electricity generator is located. It also has other local and global environmental benefits which may include emitting little or no regional air pollution or carbon dioxide. The RECs in AEP Energy’s renewable energy plans are verified and certified by Green-e Energy®, and AEP Energy is required to disclose the quantity, type and geographic source of each certificate. Please see the Product Content Label for this information. Green-e Energy also verifies that the renewable certificates are not sold more than once or claimed by more than one party.
